Bord Bia Reports Strong Growth In Craft Beer Market

A new Bord Bia report launched today (6 September 2016) shows the Irish craft beer market continuing to grow both domestically and internationally. The ‘Craft beer and Microbreweries in Ireland Survey 2016’ found 62 microbreweries operating in the country, 48 of them producers and 16 contracting companies.

The projected turnover for craft beer is estimated at €59 million for 2016 in the report, 50% higher than 2015’s €40 million. Production output is estimated to increase also, to 197,000 hl in 2016 from 134,000 hl in 2015.

The report found that craft beer represented 2.5% of total beer consumption in Ireland in 2015, a number that is projected to rise to 3.4% this year.

This weekend the 6th annual Irish Craft Beer festival will be held in the RDS in Dublin, with a record number of breweries and cider makers participating and over 12,000 attendees expected.
