C&C Group Appoints Jamie Avenell As Wine Trading Director

Drinks distributor C&C Group has appointed Jamie Avenell as its new wine trading director, it was announced today.

Avenell will be taking over the role from Harriet Kininmonth, who has held the position for three years.

He will be responsible for the sourcing of C&C’s wine portfolio across Matthew Clark, Tennent’s Wholesale, Bibendum Wine, Bibendum Off Trade, and Walker & Wodehouse.

He will also be driving the commercial wine strategy across the GB on- and off-trade.

Focus On Wine

The appointment of Avenell signals the group’s ongoing focus on wine, as it continues to curate an exciting range, globally sourced and available at multiple price points.

Avenell was previously a senior wine buyer within the C&C group. He started working with Bibendum Wine some 14 years ago and has held a number of key positions within the business since then.

As well as strong relationships with producers, Avenell has a number of credentials that make him uniquely suited to the role.

He is a judge for various wine competitions, including the Decanter World Wine Awards, and a second-year student pursuing Master of Wine status.

‘Energy And Tenacity’

Speaking about the appointment, the commercial director of C&C Group, Clara Shand, said, “We are delighted to promote Jamie to the role of wine trading director.

“Not only does Jamie have a deep love for wine, but he has an incredible knowledge and passion for the business, having worked at Bibendum for over 14 years.

“Producers and customers value his energy and tenacity.

“In announcing Jamie’s appointment, we would like to thank Harriet Kininmonth for a fantastic three years in the role, where she introduced many new and exciting producers to our portfolio, such as Gérard Bertrand, Yealands, Santo Wines and Ste Michelle, to name a few.

“We wish Harriet good luck in her future career.”

Avenell said, “It is a huge privilege to lead the wine-buying team at an exciting time for our business.

“The C&C Group wine business offers an unrivalled opportunity to cater for so many varying customer needs.

“We have a hugely talented team and a fantastic portfolio of producers and partners, and I am excited by the opportunity to work with them all, to both maximise the mutual opportunities our partnerships present, and to build further on our market-leading propositions.”
