Coca Cola Thank You Fund Promotes Physical Activity

Plans for this years Coca Cola Thank You Fund were unveiled today by Leo Varadkar, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport in collaboration with Irish athlete Derval O'Rourke, this years brand ambassador.

The scheme aims to encourage people to become active, and will offer five grants of €25,000 to voluntary and non-profit organisations looking to introduce new programmes that promote physical activity. 

The Coca Cola Thank You fund launched in 2011 and has so far distributed €375,000 to various organisations across Ireland, soon to be half a million following the allocation of this years grants.

Minister Varadkar said, "This is a great initiative which aims to get people moving and help non-profit groups to stage physical activities. I encourage other groups to think about how they can promote active living through this fund.”

Athlete and ambassador Derval O'Rourke took to twitter, urging potential applicants of the scheme to get involved, writing: "Because #MovementIsHappiness we’re looking for inspiring projects that will get people moving! Enter at www.coca-cola.ie/thankyou.”

Judging this years applications will be Denis Toomey, President of Cycling Ireland, Tina Murphy, founder of Run with Tina, Lorraine Ho, Managing Director of Bootcamp Ireland, ?Deirdre Garvey, CEO at The Wheel, as well as representatives from Federation of Irish Sport and the Northern Ireland Sports forum, both partner organisations of the fund.

Ailish Forde, Director of Public Affairs and Communications of Coca-Cola HBC Ireland said, “We are delighted to announce the availability of €125,000 in funding for 2014, and welcome voluntary and non-profit organisations to apply online at www.coca-cola.ie/thankyou. The Fund is looking for creative and engaging approaches to getting people moving through sport and activity based programmes. Application for the fund opened today, running until 6pm on June 16.
