Corkonian Craft Brewery Launches Ireland's First Gluten-Free Stout

Cork-based craft brewery 9 White Deer has launched Ireland's first gluten-free stout, according to a statement the company issued yesterday (28 February).

The new stout is the latest addition to its Stag Soar range of craft beers which includes a Red Ale; a Pale Ale; an IPA and a Kolsch.

The selection of gluten-free beer is the brain child of Gordon Lucey and publican Don O'Leary.

O'Leary, who runs the Mills Inn Pub in Cork, stated he was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance not long after first opening the business in 2014, which influenced the direction for the business.

According to O'Leary, “At first the timing seemed terrible, we had just opened a craft brewery and I identified a gluten intolerance! However, the development of Stag Saor has changed everything for the business.  It prompted us to research the market and see how limited the beer offering is for those with gluten intolerance.”
