The Guinness Open Gate Brewery has announced that it will host an art exhibition which pays homage to the rock band, LCD Soundsystem, from 1 – 22 June.
The exclusive exhibition will feature 'never seen before' photographs by Ruvan Wijesooriya and artworks by Joe Henry of the American band.
Ruvan Wijesooriya’s photography collection is a colourful spectacle documenting LCD Soundsystem’s journey to stardom, giving us an intimate look at the details, the brewer explained in an email.
Collaboration
In addition, Wijesooriya has collaborated with artist Joe Henry to create 11 paintings, which will also be exhibited at the show.
Henry, who will also curate the exhibition said: “Ruvan is the official photographer for LCD and has the best collection of the band I have ever seen."
"His access and friendship with LCD is something rare in the commercialised and controlled music industry of today, and this close relationship can be seen in the rapport between photographer and subject."
Cover Story
Ruvan shot the two covers for 'This is Happening' and 'Bye Bye Bayou'.
"His work is purely documentary style, living with the band in LA and NYC and documenting them in the studio, on the road and live." Henry added.
"We both discussed collaborating on this exhibition and me doing a 'Remix ' of his original photography, putting my own pop art spin on top of his photos.”
