Shortlist for The BIM Young Fishmonger 2017 Awards Announced

Four fishmongers from independent seafood specialists will compete for the title ‘Independent Seafood Specialist of the Year’. The awards now include a new category, where four fishmongers from supermarket seafood counters compete against each other for the title ‘Supermarket Seafood Counter of the Year’.

Tara McCarthy, BIM’s Chief Executive, says: “As a country, we need to celebrate the skills of our seafood industry and the BIM Young Fishmonger competition highlights one of the stalwarts of the retail sector – your local fishmonger. With more than 500 independent and supermarket seafood counters nationwide and domestic sales reaching €234 million this year, seafood has fast become the most on trend protein in the market.”

Anne Stephens, finalist of this years contest in the independent category, is the wife of last years winner, George Stephens. Together, they run three successful seafood retail outlets in Blanchardstown, Mullingar and Maynooth.

The winner will be determined at BIM’s Seafood Awards on the 17th November in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin.
