Aldi Ireland Removes Black Plastic Trays From Beef Range

Aldi Ireland has announced that it has removed non-detectable black plastic trays from its fresh beef range.

The discounter said that over the past 18 months Aldi has been working with its beef suppliers, ABP and Dawn Meats to introduce 100% recyclable packaging trays across its entire range.

The redesign impacts 17 different beef lines, including Aldi’s premium Specially Selected range.

Own-Label Products

“We are working to reduce the use of unnecessary and hard to recycle plastic packaging across our own-label ranges," said John Curtin, group buying director, Aldi.

"To be the first supermarket in Ireland to remove black plastic trays from its beef products is another positive step towards achieving our long-term goal of removing all black plastic from our own-label products by the end of 2020.”

It follows Aldi’s recent cutting of similar packaging from its fruit and vegetables and fresh fish ranges.
