Colgate-Palmolive Commits to Recyclability of Plastics in All Packaging

Colgate-Palmolive Company has committed to 100% recyclability of plastics in packaging across all its product categories by 2025.

The company has already made significant progress in advancing its 2020 packaging sustainability goals, and currently, 98% of its packaging is PVC-free.

Significant Strides

Colgate released its sustainability report in 2017, titled "Building a Future to Smile About”, which details its long-standing commitments, ongoing progress and latest achievements in sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Regarding its 2020 pledges, Colgate has reduced its water use per ton of production by nearly 47% against 2002. It continues advertisement campaign ‘Save Water’ which employs consumers to "Turn Off the Tap When Brushing”.

The company remains committed to reaching its goal of using 100% sustainable palm oil, which it expects to achieve in 2018. It also achieved and surpassed its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing by 25% against 2002.

Ian Cook, Colgate's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "With the help of Colgate People and our suppliers and partners, we are making good progress against our 2020 goals.

“However, our sustainability journey is on-going and as we achieve some of our goals, we are assessing new areas for focus and new targets to strive for so that we can continue building a future to smile about."

Colgate recently announced that its quarterly sales just met analysts’ estimates as demand in emerging markets, including Latin America, was below its expectations, sending its shares down 3% in premarket trading.
