Loughbrough Student Wins GPI-Sponsored Design Award

The Starpack Schools and Students Awards, aimed at promoting consumer packaging design, were presented on 29 June at a ceremony in London. The judges awarded 42 silver and 15 Gold in the Students Awards and 11 silver and 6 Gold in the Schools Awards, among other prizes.

Loughbrough University's Nicholas Johnson won gold for the Graphic Packaging International (GPI) sponsored award, with its brief 'Barbeque fun in the sun!'. Johnson's entry scooped him £500 in prize money and a week's work experience in Graphic Packaging International's Global Innovation Centre.

Nikki Clark, GPI's Marketing Manager, said, "We look forward to welcoming Nicholas on his placement in September and contributing to his first steps in what could be a very successful future in the packaging industry."

The Starpack Awards are organised by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, and recognise innovation in packaging design and technology. More awards were allocated in 2016 than ever before.
