Smurfit Kappa in Denmark and in Norway have both been successful at the recent Scanstar 2016 Packaging Awards, organised by the Scandinavian Packaging Association (SPA), winning a Scanstar award each.
Smurfit Kappa Denmark was recognised for its introduction of new and improved transport packaging for sheets of bended aluminium, on behalf of waterproofing company Icopal. Rather than a traditional square box, the new box has been designed at an angle around the primary product whilst maintaining the same level of protection.
Elsewhere, Smurfit Kappa Norway was awarded the Scanstar on behalf of Scandinavian Business Systems, for the winning design of a corrugated inlay which forms part of a transport pack for chairs and replaces polystyrene.
Pim Wareman, CEO Corrugated North East Europe, said; “We are delighted to have received Scanstar awards in two of our key markets, furthered by the knowledge that we are the only manufacturing company to do so.”
Elsewhere, at the 2016 PART Awards in Moscow, Smurfit Kappa Russia achieved first and second prizes in the ‘Alcoholic Beverage’ packaging category for its work on packaging for flavoured beer 'Boilermaker by Tuborg' and 'Imperial Collection Super Premium' vodka.
Olga Rudova, the commercial director of Smurfit Kappa St. Petersburg, commented on the win, saying; “These wins highlight once again the right strategy to develop the fit-for-purpose packaging solutions together with the customers, based on their needs and business challenges.
