Chartered Accountants Ireland Publish Tax Guide For SMEs

The Chartered Accountants Ireland have published a book to help owners and managers of small businesses and their professional advisors navigate tax issues.

The book, titled ‘Small and Expanding Businesses: Getting the Tax Right’ by Kerri O’Connell, is written to be accessible and jargon-free, and to give practical information on tax issues typically encountered by SMEs in Ireland.

The book focuses on four main areas of taxation: payroll taxes, VAT, income tax on business profits earned by a sole trade or partnership, and corporation tax on business profits earned by companies, as these are the taxes that affect most Irish businesses. Three case studies are also included and developed throughout to illustrate and explain the tax issues with worked examples.

Commenting on the book, Simon Pratt, CEO of Avoca, said: “This unique book brilliantly fills a niche that will be invaluable to all start-up and expanding small businesses. Kerri has skilfully managed to bridge a gap between the basic tax information available from Revenue and the expensive detailed advice available from the tax specialist.

Pratt added: “It is an ideal reference book that should be on hand in the office of every budding entrepreneur in Ireland.”
