Checkout To Kick Off 2017 With Celebration Of Irish SMEs

January will see Checkout run a special feature on Irish SMEs, celebrating those firms and individuals that serve the Irish grocery retail and wholesale industry.

Small businesses play a hugely important role in the Irish economy, creating sustainable jobs, and bringing innovative ideas to the market, but are often neglected by the State.

With Brexit looming, US president elect Donald Trump threatening to cut corporate taxes and draw multinationals back to the States, and the Irish government struggling to create a comprehensive policy to minimize the effect on Irish businesses, the threat to inward investment in Ireland is extremely high. This underlines the need to give both support and protection to indigenous businesses, so that they can continue to create employment and invest in their local communities in the face of economic uncertainty.

Checkout Magazine has had to move its Ireland’s Finest, the profile of 100 outstanding SMEs in the food and food service sector, from the December 2016 issue to the January edition 2017, because of the incredible demand from small enterprises asking to be included.

Checkout editor, Jenny Whelan says, “This feature is a great chance to not only celebrate Irish SMEs, and those retailers and wholesalers supporting them, but also to highlight just how important they are to the Irish economy.”
