Did you know… Three generations of the Barry Group have come together to commemorate the business' 60th anniversary? Managing director Jim Barry, his wife Niamh, and his daughters Holly and Amy, who are involved in the family business, hosted a celebration in Mallow, Cork in honour of Jim's father, company founder James A Barry, who founded the business in 1955. “Our father is an inspirational man, who combined great foresight and I acknowledge the amazing foundation he has put in place and his continued presence is enjoyed by all," commented Jim Barry at the event.

Did you know… Marks & Spencer has started selling 'double yolk' eggs in its UK stores? Roughly 0.1% of eggs have two yolks, an anomaly caused by a hormonal imbalance found in young chickens. The eggs are sourced using a technique called ‘candling’, which involves shining a bright light through each egg to view the silhouette of the yolks.

Did you know… French farmers in Rennes protested plunging pork prices by releasing piglets into a Géant supermarket? Farmers' group FDSEA were campaigning against the low price paid per kilo of pork, which fell to a low of €1.08 last week. Farrming groups are demanding it be raised by at least 30 cents immediately.

Did you know… Vitz Drinks, makers of the VitHit health drink range, has secured a loan of €50,000 to help grow its business? Vitz Drinks sourced the loan from Linked Finance, and intends to use the funding to launch a range of drinks aimed at children. Commenting about the loan, Ian O’Rourke, from Vitz Drinks, said the company “will be able to get the investment, launch our new product and generate business growth."

Did you know… GM Marketing has secured a listing for its Free’ist Free-From Foods range in United Arab Emirates supermarket chain Spinney’s? The company will supply its Free’ist range of sugar-free cookies, chocolate bars and wafers to Spinney’s by means of a distribution agreement with Pan Euro Foods in Dublin.

Did you know… Tayto has announced 150 new jobs ahead of the reopening of a newly-expanded Tayto Park next month? The reopening of the park in March will also include the unveiling of Europe’s first wooden rollercoaster. Other new additions to the park will include a '5D' cinema, seven new rides and a robotic dinosaur exhibition.

Did you know… A survey by the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) has found that 75% of pharmacists in Ireland have been victims of crime? Of those who reported robberies and raids, 36% said the perpetrators carried one or more weapons; a knife in 75% of cases and a syringe in 25% of cases. It found that 37% of pharmacists that did not go to the police, did so due to fear of reprisals.

Did you know… Ireland is forecast to have the strongest growth in the EU this year? According to the European Commission, Ireland can expect growth of 3.5% in 2015, with consumer confidence at a nine-year high. The European Commission also estimates that unemployment will fall below 10% in Ireland this year, while Government debt will fall over the next two years.
