Did you know… O’Hara’s Irish Craft Beers has launched its latest beverage creation, Sorachi Ace, which is a single hop IPA from the brewer's new 'Hop Adventure Series' initiative? The style is described as a 'single hop India Pale Ale, meaning one hop was used for bittering, aroma and several doses of dry-hopping'.

Did you know… A study by Carat has found that when it comes to food choices in the household, females are far more likely to make decisions than men? The study found that 62% of females are likely to make food choices in a typical household, compared to 20% of males, while 54% of females are likely to make family menu choices, compared to 12% of men.

Did you know… Grocery, homeware and fashion retailer Marks & Spencer is set to break its 1,000 shop milestone with the announcement of a plan to accelerate the growth of its convenience format Simply Food in the UK? Marks & Spencer currently operates 852 outlets, and it is thought it will reach its target by next year.

Did you know… The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued an alert on 50g packs of Monolith Mitte Gmbh Kurkumawurzel gemahlen (ground turmeric root) with best before dates of 31 December 2016, 28 February 2017 and 31 March 2017, due to the presence of Salmonella infants? Businesses selling the German-made product must display point of sale notices that declare the affected batches as unsafe to eat.

Did you know… The European Commission has found that voluntary country-of-origin labelling is a more suitable means of affirming traceability of dairy products across Europe, as opposed to mandatory labeling? A report from the Commission determined that the cost of enforcing mandatory labelling would outweigh the benefits.

Did you know… Following a number of poor harvests of the Glera grape in Italy, experts are predicting a global shortage of Prosecco? However, spokesperson for NOffla, Evelyn Jones told The Journal that the shortage is unlikely to have any serious effect on the off-trade industry, as the Irish market for Prosecco remains relatively small.

Did you know… A survey conducted by the Irish Independent has revealed that single price stores don’t always offer the best value? According to the study, carried out by the newpaper's Aideeen Sheehan, five items in sample baskets from Euro Giant and Dealz were cheaper than in mainstream supermarkets, but four were dearer than similar items from Tesco.

Did you know… Monaghan Mushrooms has signed a energy deal with Vayu Energy, which the supplier says is worth around €2.8 million per year? Vayu will supply the mushroom grower with renewable electricity generated by a 10-turbine wind farm located in West Cork, across its six sites in Monaghan, Mayo and Kildare.

Did you know… Western Hygiene Supplies has announced the acquisition of the Janitorial & Chemical Division of Celtic Linen? According to a statement, the move follows Celtic Linen's decision to concentrate solely on its core linen, laundry and ancillary business. Celtic Linen's managing director Philip Scallan said that the company has "collaborated with Western Hygiene to look after this business as their reputation for quality, supply and service are second to none."
