Irish Shoppers Thought To Have Spent Over €200 Million On Fathers Day

Irish consumers are thought to have spent an estimated €200 million on Father's Day, according to Retail Excellence Ireland.

The group says that occasions such as Mother's Day, Valentines, Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Fathers Day have all been strengthening their role as calls to action to buy across developed economies.

It says that even though this growth is being driven by consumers with more global tastes, it has also been helped by retailers implementing better product ranging and promotional plans around these key occasions. With Father’s Day being no different, REI predicted that more than €200 million would be spent this year.

"It’s encouraging to see consumers planning to splurge on their Dads” Lynn Drumgoole, Director of Communications at Retail Excellence Ireland commented ahead of Father's Day.

"Fathers up and down the country can look forward to receiving everything from garden equipment to clothing and in particular, with the year that is in it, Euro2016 memorabilia."
