Did you know … Chinese appetite for avocados could boost global sales of the fruit to double in 2018, according to the world’s largest fruit distributor. Steve Bernar, president of the California-based Mission Produce told CNBC that the demand for the fruit has been growing across the US, Europe, and now Asia, due its health benefits and popularity among young consumers.

Did you know … German retailer Rewe is planning to introduce about 100 reduced-sugar products this year and make all its own brands available in low sugar version by 2020, in an effort to prevent diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

Did you know … Italian retailers have introduced a new charge for lightweight plastic and biodegradable bags, such as those used for fruit, vegetables and bakery products. Italy has become the first European country to introduce such a measure, which is based on a 2015 EU directive that encourages member states to crack down on disposable biodegradable and compostable plastic bags.

Did you know … A number of US retailers, including Ahold Delhaize, Albertsons and Target, have joined with global food manufacturers such as Kellogg and Kraft Heinz to form the North American Sustainable Palm Oil Network (NASPON). The aim of the group is to educate and assist North American companies in making and delivering on commitments to source sustainable palm oil.

Did you know ... Colgate-Palmolive has introduced the first app-enabled electronic toothbrush with artificial intelligence called ‘Colgate Smart Electronic Toothbrush E1’. The toothbrush will provide users with real-time feedback about their brushing technique and crowdsource their toothbrushing data (with users’ permission) using Apple’s ResearchKit, according to the company.
