Did you know... ? UK retailer Sainsbury’s is catering to its Millenial customers by introducing straight-to-pan pouches for meat products next month. The retailer is responding to survey findings which showed a squeamishness among shoppers under the age of 35 to touch raw meat.

Did you know... ? With the surge in global demand for protein, the small but growing insect farming sector has captured attention and investments from some heavyweights in the $400 billion-a-year animal feed business. Even fast food giant McDonald’s is studying using insects for chicken feed to reduce reliance on soy protein.

Did you know... ? Nestlé will launch a ruby chocolate version of its KitKat brand in Europe this week after it made its debut this year in Japan and South Korea. The brand became the first to market the new chocolate variety developed by Barry Callebaut. Ruby chocolate is the fourth and newest variety of chocolate, in addition to dark, milk and white.

Did you know... ? Global potato products manufacturer McCain Foods has started investing in the vertical farming technology of Canadian company TruLeaf Sustainable Agriculture to grow leafy greens year-round in an environmentally sustainable way.

Did you know... ? Diageo has turned its attention to its East African Breweries division (EABL) by starting to produce Captain Morgan rum locally in Kenya as part of wider investment in its spirit business in response to growing demand. Sales of spirits at EABL grew 20% in the country last year, marking a shift in the East African nation where beer, including EABL's Tusker, has long been the preferred alcoholic beverage.


Did you know... ? Finish retailer S Group has announced it will install solar panels at some 40 of its sites within a year. The retailer will install around 37,000 solar panels on the roofs of its Prisma hypermarkets, its S-Markets and its ABC stations throughout the country, with the aim of generating 80% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2025.
