Did you know?... Americans are set to eat more meat in 2018 than ever before. According to the US Department of Agriculture, the average consumer will eat 222.2 pounds (100.8 kilos) of red meat and poultry this year, surpassing the record set in 2004.

Did you know?... UK retailer Sainsbury's is introducing a new private-label range of plant-based foods, with the aim of offering an ‘innovative solution for meat-free mealtimes’. One of the highlights of its new range is the 'Sweet & Smokey BBQ Pulled Jackfruit’.

Did you know?... Florida grapefruit production may reach a 99-year low, according to the US Department of Agriculture. This is due to the aftermath of Hurrican Irma which has caused a crop devastation in parts of the US ever since it made landfall late last summer.

Did you know?... UK retailer Tesco has said it was using high technology optical grading machines to select the best possible Brussels sprouts for its aisles ahead of Christmas. The machines were set to photograph about 180 million sprouts, taking hundreds of 360-degree sprout photographs per second, according to the retailer.

Did you know?... UK retailer Tesco has seen a shift from traditional Christmas puddings to festive sponge cakes this year. Customers are increasingly opting for alternative dessert options and the retailer said it offered 12 different private-label sponge desserts, compared with ten traditional puddings.


Did you know?... Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has started testing a new cashless shopping system at some of its stores involving electronic shelf labels. The labels can be scanned with a store card, which automatically registers the item in customers' digital basket and lets them pay directly via a smartphone app without using a checkout as part of the store's ‘tap, grab and go’ system.
