Did You Know... Seven out of 20 Irish adults regularly read magazines, according to the ABC Island of Ireland report for August 2015, which measures circulation figures for the first six months of the year? Grace Aungier, CEO, Magazines Ireland said, “Magazine brands have shown great innovation in moving to serve their audiences across a variety of platforms in recent years. [...] In certain markets and among key demographic groups, the attraction to professionally-created and intelligently-curated content under the banner of a trusted magazine brand is now stronger than ever.”

Did You Know... Compass Group Ireland has been awarded the RoSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety for the second consecutive year? The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Safety Awards is considered one of the top occupational safety awards programmes. Members of Compass’s Northern Ireland team accepted the honour at a presentation ceremony and gala dinner in Birmingham last month.

Did You Know... New research from GloHealth has revealed that 69% of parents spend over €500 per year on extracurricular sports activities for each child? The insurer found that 17% of parents sign their child up for one extracurricular activity per year, while 43% will sign their child up for two activities. The research also shows that 88% of parents say the back-to-school period puts a serious strain on their finances, with 91% saying that the Government should do more to assist parents with school costs.

Did You Know... Northern Irish drinks producer CocoMojo has launched CocoOil, an organic, cold-pressed, virgin coconut oil? The Lisburn, County Antrim firm is adding the product to its portfolio of coconut-based drinks, including CocoPassion and CocoSoul. According to CocoMojo’s founder and managing director Tricia McNeilly, CocoOil has a wide range of applications, especially for baking and as a spread for sandwiches.

Did You Know... Tommy Keane has been appointed Production Director with Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard? Keane previously held the role of General Manager of the Middleton Distillery, since 2006, where he successfully oversaw an increase in production. In his new role, he will head up the Production Division, which includes Distillation, Maturation, Bottling, Supply Chain and Central Laboratories.

Did You Know... A survey carried out by the Support Your Local campaign has revealed that over half of tourists say they come to Ireland for the pubs? The survey, which consisted of a sample size of 500 from across the UK, Canada, USA, Germany and France, found that 54% of tourists ranked 'the pub' as the top reason for visiting Ireland. When asked what came to mind when they though of Ireland, 18% said ‘beer and whiskey’.

Did You Know... An investigation by The Irish Examiner has revealed that a number of illegal tobacco products available in Cork City contain arsenic and lead, as well as asbestos and even human excrement? The products in question have fictional brand names such as Excellence, Palace, President, CK, Gin, Ling, and M&G and are being manufactured in the United Arab Emirates, China, and Eastern Europe before being smuggled in to Ireland where criminals can buy them for as low as 20c and sell them for between €4 and €6.
