Did You Know...  Dunnes Stores is preparing a significant expansion plan into the UK? According to Retail Week, the group has shown interest in buying a number of shops in Britain, and it is believed that it may look at the opportunity presented by Marks & Spencer’s decision to close some of its outlets.

Did you know… SuperValu hosted a ‘summer garden party’ in Dublin last week to promote its SuperValu Specially Sourced range of wines? The event played host to winemakers from around the world, and also featured a Good Food Karma showcase.

Did you know… A study by Carat has found that 54% of consumers are likely to notice promotional displays at the end of in-store aisles? The Carat Pulse study also found that on-shelf advertising (48% awareness) and free samples/tastings (45% awareness) were other effective means of in-store brand communication.

Did You Know... Unilever saw its pre-tax profits for the first half of 2015 fall 14% to €3.6 billion? However, the FMCG giant also beat sales growth expectations, with sales of €27 billion, instead of the predicted €26.7 billion. Unilever’s food sales rose 1.4% to €6.2 billion, but the group reported weaknesses in its dairy spread business.

Did You Know... A survey conducted by One4All has revealed that that 91% of the retail workforce thinks employee health is not a top priority for employers? It also revealed that 72% would be more likely to stay at a company that cared about their health. Almost four in ten retail workers (36%) say that they have regularly felt stressed because of work in the past year, while many have lost sleep over it.

Did You Know...  Jobs website IrishJobs.ie has reported a 17% annual increase in the total amount of jobs advertised, with a 7% rise in the second quarter of 2015 alone? It has also found a strong level of jobseeker sentiment, with half of those surveyed feeling more secure in their job than 12 months ago. Retail jobs alone are up 15%, while Financial Services and Insurance is up 49%.

Did You Know... Managing director of Excellence Ireland Quality Association, Irene Collins has confirmed TV3 presenter Martin King as this host of this year’s National Q Mark Awards? The award ceremony is set to take place in the ballroom of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on 25 September.

Did You Know... Celtic-punk band The Pogues has launched a new whiskey with West Cork Distillers in London’s trendy Boogaloo Pub? The Sunday Times reported that distillers Barry Walsh and Frank McHardy crafted the whiskey to appeal to the 25 to 35 year old demographic, while co-founder of West Cork Distillers, John O’Connell says that partnering with The Pogues is ideal, as the band share many values with the company.
