Did You Know... Niall Browne, CEO of Dawn Meats, joined Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney T.D. at a number of engagements in Illinois to promote Irish meat in the U.S? During the visit, Browne and Coveney attended high-profile meetings, including one at McDonald's Headquarters, to discuss the potential for Irish beef in the McDonald's global supply chain.

Did You Know... The SFA National Small Business Awards 2016 were officially launched last week by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, at Government Buildings. The awards celebrate the achievements of small businesses in Ireland, and recognise their contribution to the Irish economy. The category winners will get a trophy and free membership of the Small Firms Association, while the Overall Winner will receive a bursary of €5,000 to present to a charity of their choice.

Did You Know... Aldi has launched a range of merchandise for Irish rugby supporters to celebrate the Rugby World Cup 2015? Aldi shoppers can pick up dual-licensed rugby kits in adult and children’s sizes, with prices coming under €20 per items. Also available are Aldi’s offical Rugby World Cup ball at €9.99 and a mini ball for €4.99.

Did You Know... Following a successful trial in its larger stores, Tesco has announced it will put more Komodo Dragon Chilli peppers on sale in its outlets? Described as the hottest known commercially-grown chilli, these peppers measure up to 1.4 million Scoville units, and are packaged with warning labels advising customers to not handle them without gloves.

Did You Know... Yvonne Connolly, Ronan Keating's former wife, is urging the women of Ireland to donate dresses in support of the 'Buy My Dress' campaign, supported by Kellogg's Special K, the biggest annual fundraising drive for the Down Syndrome Centre of Ireland? Drop off points for collection this year include Weight Watchers meetings and ZipYard alteration stores nationwide. The Down Syndrome Centre hopes to sell over 10,000 garments this year.

Did You Know... Ornua, owner of the Kerrygold brand, has opened a new research and development centre in Avila, Spain? Ornua entered the Spanish ingredients market in 2014 when it acquired a cheese business, now called Ornua Ingredients EspañaOrnua is headquartered in Dublin and employs approximately 3,000 people globally.

Did You Know... Owner of the Cadbury and Oreo brands, Mondelez, has announced its plans to have 50% of its portfolio contain healthy snacks within the next five years? Currently, healthy snacks account for 30% of the group's revenue, and as consumer demands for healthy options grows, the company expects to focus 70% of new product development in healthy goods over the coming years.

Did You Know... The Midleton Food and Drink Festival took place from the 4th to the 13th of Septmeber this year, after having been expanded to accommodate a wide variety of events and activities? The main food and drink festival took place on the 12th of September, and featured market stalls featuring local produce, as well as food and drink demonstrations.
