Pieta House And Lyons Mark World Mental Health Day

Pieta House is partnering with Lyons Tea to mark World Mental Health Day and raise much-needed funds and awareness for the organization’s non-profit Suicide and Self Harm Crisis Centres with a campaign called ‘Time To Talk’.

The ‘Time To Talk’ campaign is rolling out across Ireland from 10 October with Pieta House taking over the Lyons Tea Original and Gold Blend 80s boxes for the month of October.

The special Pieta House takeover packs help raise awareness around mental health issues in Ireland and include vital contact information for anyone who feels they need to talk with Pieta House. Lyons will also make a donation of 10cent to the charity for every pack sold.

‘Time To Talk’, which marks the first element of the partnership between Lyons and Pieta House, runs throughout October, one of three months in the year with the highest rates of suicide in Ireland.  The statistics relating to mental health issues in Ireland are staggering, with one in seven adults experiencing a mental health issue in the last 12 months, while 451 people - 375 of whom were men -  lost their lives to suicide in 2015. In the same year, Pieta House helped over 5,000 people and have helped nearly 4,000 people so far this year.

Speaking about the partnership, Pauline Browne, Marketing Director, Lyons Tea said, "The work that Pieta House does to help anyone who feels that they need support is incredible and as a non-profit organisation they rely hugely on public fundraising so we’re delighted to be partnering with them for ‘Time To Talk’.

"While a donation will be made to Pieta House, what’s more important is actively encouraging people to open up and have conversations, even the difficult ones, whether it’s with a loved one or a professional counsellor. It’s vital that no-one in a difficult situation feels that they have nowhere to turn to for help and we’ll continue to support that message at Lyons Tea. In Ireland, over 900 million cups of Lyons are consumed every year; that’s 900 million opportunities to take the time to talk."

Pieta House CEO, Brian Higgins said, "Time To Talk is a fantastic campaign and we’re delighted to partner with Lyons Tea. Tea plays an important part in our work at Pieta House.  As soon as people are welcomed into our houses they are offered a cup of tea, it is inviting, reassuring and it shows we care; it helps people to relax and open up.

"As a charity, we rely on the public’s generosity to ensure we continue to serve individuals and communities across Ireland and funds raised through this partnership will allow us to continue to do just that. But also important is the message that people make the time to talk to family and friends about the struggles or challenges they face every day."
