RGDATA Meets With Minister English To Discuss Urban Renewal

Retail Grocery Dairy & Allied Trades Association (RGDATA) recently met with Damien English, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Renewal to discuss the Urban Renewal & Town Centre Revitalisation.

Also on the fore of the agenda was RGDATA’s campaign for a National Town Centre Management Programme and Town Centre Health Checks which was launched earlier this year on September 29 in association with the Heritage Council.

According to Tara Buckley, RGDATA Director General “The meeting with Minister Damien English was very practical and positive. Minister English is extremely supportive of the pilot Town Centre Health Check programme developed by RGDATA and the Heritage Council and he is going to address the issue of how it can be used as the basis for a national programme. He is going to consult with senior officials in the Department and meet with RGDATA and Alison Harvey of the Heritage Council again in early 2017,” said RGDATA Director General Tara Buckley.

Vibrant town and village centres are a key issue for independent shop owners. With this in mind RGDATA is campaigning for a National Town Centre Management Strategy with a key focus on revitalising Ireland’s towns.
