Sports Direct Said To Be Attempting To Buy Dunnes Stores Outlets

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley plans to attempt to purchase up to seven Dunnes Stores outlets, according to a report by The Sunday Times.

Property sources have revealed that Ashley, who also owns the Heatons department store, is attempting to purchase Dunnes Stores establishments in Dublin, Cork, and Waterford. In recent weeks, it is rumoured that Ashley has been meeting up with Dunnes Stores management in those locations.

Many of the Dunnes Stores located on main roads of these cities are currently vacant, making Ashley's pursuit for purchasing understandable. Dunnes has also not been hesitant to close stores that are not performing well, with the recent closing of multiples stores across the UK as evidence.

No deals have been made yet, as the companies are still in the beginning stages of this potential transaction. In the past, Ashley has successfully procured Boyer's Department store off Dublin's O'Connell Street, beating out competitors Aldi and Lidl.
