Spar Glasthule has announced it is supporting the ‘Going Green’ Initiative which will see a group of small businesses in one of Ireland’s best-loved seaside towns committing to focusing on reducing plastic use with ambitions to also cut their waste, energy and water consumption. The Dublin based store, launched the new initiative on Bloomsdays.

Drinkaware research has found that parents rarely actively seek information about some of the most worrying effects of underage drinking – the link between alcohol and mental health, illegal drug use and sexual health. 3 in 4 parents do not obtain any information before they initiate a conversation about alcohol with their children. The research also found an increase in the number of parents who believe it's acceptable for their children to drink at home before the age of 15 years - 14% in 2017 vs 9% in 2015.

Insomnia has announced that they are introducing compostable cups across its network of coffee shops in Ireland. The decision to introduce the new cups is part of Insomnia’s efforts to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill by 90% by 2020. In addition to this, the company also aims to replace plastic straws with a paper alternative and to instal compostable bins in its outlets.

Annual internet sales in the UK rose by nearly 20% in May as shoppers splashed out on Royal Wedding goods and summer wear. Home delivery expert ParcelCompare says record amounts were spent online in many retail sectors.

Healthy food retailer MuscleFood.com has been named Specialist Online Food Retailer of the Year at the Grocer Gold Awards. The company scooped the award beating off tough competition from major household names. MuscleFood.com launched in 2013 and since then has grown with turnover surpassing £100 million.

CEO and co-founder of Web Summit, Paddy Cosgrave, has been announced as the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award at the 2018 Event Industry Awards on Friday, July 20th. The award will recognise and celebrate Cosgrave’s achievements which began in Ireland and transformed into a global revolution.

Teagasc has appointed John Spink as the Head of its Crops, Environment and Land Use Programme for a five-year term. Based at Teagasc, Oak Park, Carlow, John Spink will lead the organisation’s national tillage, forestry, horticulture and environmental, research and knowledge transfer programme.
