Services provider Sodexo has been announced as a sponsor of the Kerrygold Ballymaloe Litfest for its third year. The Litfest, running from 15th to 17th of May, will bring together chefs and writers, such as Darina Allen and Tom Doorley, to celebrate food and wine writing.

Investment vehicle Nomad Holdings is to take over Iglo, the owner of the Birds Eye frozen foods brand, for €2.6 billion. Previous owner Permira will retain a 9 per cent stake in the company once the deal is completed. Iglo is the second largest frozen food manufacturer in the world, had had sales of €1.5 billion last year.

The Rooftop Café at Marks & Spencer’s flagship Grafton Street store has reopened after being refurbished with booth-style seating and having its interior updated. The new design is in line with Marks & Spencer’s ecological and ethical commitment, Plan A and incorporates FSC certified wood on the tabletops.

Limerick-based Payback Loyalty is celebrating its tenth birthday by doubling its workforce as part of an expansion programme, creating 28 new jobs. The company provides cloud-based solution to the retail sector for customer loyalty schemes, and counts Topaz and Spar among its clients.

The millionth Leap card for has been sold, with 60% of Dublin public transport trips being paid for by the transport card. Of the million cards sold so far, 600,000 are adult cards, a 260,000 are student cards, 80,000 are child cards and 60,000 are visitor cards. The Leap card is now also accepted by Iarnród Éireann services in Cork and Bus Éireann services in Galway and Limerick.

A survey by consumer group Which? has revealed that many UK supermarket and café salads and sandwiches have more calories and fat than a McDonalds Burger. Top of their list was a Tesco Honey and Chicken Pasta, clocking up 706 kcals and 35.5g of fat, almost the same as three hamburgers.

Penneys in Sligo has reopened after a renovation, creating 17 new jobs – bringing its staff numbers to 103. The store first opened 33 years ago, and following its recent nine-week renovation, the store now stretches across 18,900 sq ft of retail space.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton has commenced a nine-day trade and investment mission across the Gulf region and India. The visit will include 63 Irish companies, including food and drink producers, 53 meetings and events in seven cities.

Barry Group-owned Costcutter has been announced as the sponsor of 98FM’s Best of Dublin Awards, which seeks to honour the Dubliners that most contribute to life in the capital. The shortlist of nominations will be announced in May on 98FM’s website, with an awards ceremony set to take place on the 27th of May.

Food delivery service Deliveroo has been launched in Dublin. Much like Justeat.ie, the company partners with restaurants to create a single destination for ordering food. However, Deliveroo will work with higher profile restaurants that don’t have their own delivery systems in place, like Little Ass Burrito bar and Itsa, to serve small city centre areas.
