C&C has appointed Jonathan Solesbury as its interim group Chief Financial Officer. Solesbury has been with the drinks company for 22 years, and has served as executive director on many of its regional boards across the globe. The interim appointment is for a period of 12 months.

Cork City Council is taking Starbucks to court to shut its Patrick Street Shop. The Council has referred its case for a closure order to the courts, after the coffee retailer opened without appropriate planning permission.

Macra na Feirme has announced its 2017 FBD Young Farmer of the Year search has begun. Young farmers in all sectors are encouraged to enter, with each sector champion competing for the grand title, as well as a travel bursary and the opportunity to experience farm practices abroad while developing their skills. The trial of three former Tesco executives charged with fraud in an accounting scandal is due to start in September. Carl Rogberg, 50, Chris Bush, 51, and John Scouler, 49, appeared at Southwark Crown Court, London to plead not guilty to the charges.

Green & Black’s is launching its first product that is neither Fairtrade certified nor organic. The ‘Velvet Edition’ bars instead carry a ‘Cocoa Life’ symbol, which the brand’s owner Mondelez created. Glenn Caton, Northern Europe president of Mondelez, said, “These beans are not available in organic at the scale required for Green and Black's, but I am proud that they are sustainably sourced, independently verified beans from the Cocoa Life programme, of which Fairtrade will ensure we remain an accountable partner for farmers.”

Juice company Skinny Malinkys has won the first VidPitch competition. The competition, sponsored by the Local Enterprise Office and Microfinance Ireland and designed to encourage small businesses and entrepreneurs, awarded Skinny Malinkys a €5,000 cash prize as well as desk space for a year in Space@DublinBIC.
