82% Go Online For Christmas Gifts

According to Carat, independent media planning and buying specialists, 82% of Irish adults are turning to online retailers for their Christmas shopping.

This is up from 73% in previous years. The average maximum spend has risen from €128 - €159 as well. After a less profitable than expected Autumn, this comes as good news to ecommerce sites.

On average, men buy more expensive Christmas gifts than women online. Of all age groups, those aged 18-34 have spent the most money on average on their most expansive gift purchased online.

When asked why they choose online shopping, respondents' top reason was that things are cheaper online (26%), while other popular reasons were the ability to shop at any time (16%) and the timesaving factor (15%).
