Three agri-food companies, Animal Health Ireland, Bfree Foods and Richard Keenan & Co are among 18 organisations shortlisted for The Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation Awards 2014.
Animal Health Ireland has developed a national BVD eradication programme, which will allow farmers to avoid an estimated loss of €100 million a year. Bfree Foods (pictured) is a gluten free bakery that has recently launched the first allergen, gluten, wheat, dairy, egg, soy and nut free multigrain wrap. Finally, Richard Keenan & Co is a technology company that uses Keenan inTouch, which links the supply chain from farm to processor to retailer.
Michael McAleer, Business & Innovation Editor, The Irish Times, said: “Many of the previous award winners have gone on to become industry and global leaders in their particular sectors. I have no doubt that they will also follow suit and go on to replicate the successes of their predecessors.”
Each category winner will secure a €10,000 Irish Times media deal and an Ipad. They will then compete for the overall title, ‘Innovation of the Year’, and win a communications and advertising package from The Irish Times, worth €150,000.
