BWG Foods has told Retail Intelligence that five stores in the Tougher Oil Distribution portfolio are to be rebranded as Spar and XL outlets, following the signing of a new partnership agreement.
The agreement will see the eight Tougher outlets in Kildare, Westmeath, Wicklow and Carlow switch to BWG's retail and wholesale divisions. Two stores are to be added to the Spar network and three to the XL network, with the remaining two stores supplied by BWG's Value Centre cash and carry network as independents.
"To be able to utilise our nationwide brand portfolio to offer Tougher a range of solutions to fit their needs is a terrific vote of confidence in our offering at both retail and wholesale levels," said Willie O'Byrne, Managing Director, BWG Foods.
Trevor O'Reilly of Tougher Oil Distribution Limited said that the new agreement "is the culmination of a competitive process which saw us review the retail and wholesale market in Ireland for a partner that could deliver against our ambitions."
Tougher Oil was purchased out of examinership earlier this year by businessman John O’Regan, managing director of Masterlink Logistics.
