Russians shoppers are switching to cheaper food items driven by a drop in real disposable income, the country's leading food retailer X5 Group said on Monday, as high inflation crimps purchasing power. Though a stronger rouble and a drop in consumer demand have helped Russia rein in inflation, which soared to 20-year highs in annual terms after Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on 24 February, consumer prices are still elevated.

Carrefour is taking steps to reduce or shift the electricity consumption of its stores, in the event that electricity usage is staggered during peak periods this winter, reports ESMmagazine.com. Current geopolitical tensions mean that the risk of electricity supply disruptions will be high as the winter approaches, prompting Carrefour to join forces with EcoWatt, a system that assesses in real time the availability of electricity in the network.

The product is already present in the Iper La grande i hypermarkets in Varese, Seriate, Rubicone, Portello, Arese and Montebello, with plans to roll it out it other stores, reports ESMMagazine.com. It forms part of the retailer’s strategy to provide quality products boasting transparent traceability, resulting from continuous research and technological innovation, and selected raw materials.
