Dunnes Has Reportedly Moved To Acquire Base Wood Fired Pizza

Dunnes Stores has reportedly made an approach to acquire Base Wood Fired Pizza, a Dublin-based pizza restaurant chain.

The Irish Times reported that Ireland’s largest grocery is moving to make its stores more ‘upscale and foodie’.

Base is owned and operated by former lawyer Shane Crilly, who declined to comment on the approach by Dunnes. It is believed a deal is yet to be agreed.

The chain operates six pizzerias, all situated in Dublin.

M&A Activity

Dunnes recently had an unsuccessful bid for Donnybrook Fair last year, after failing to acquire Avoca Handweavers in 2015.

While in June last year, it was understood Dunnes’ negotiations with Donnybrook Fair were nearing a conclusion, but in September it was reported that the retailer had withdrawn from any possible deal.

It is understood that a price could not be agreed upon by the two parties.

Donnybrook Fair was eventually bought by rivals Musgrave in November.
