Eurospar-Sponsored Irish Design Team Named Junk Kouture Designer Of The Year 2023

An Irish design team from Moate Community School, Co. Westmeath, has been crowned Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year in Monaco.

Eurospar was the official sponsor of the Irish team, which had ten designs competing on the world stage in Salle des Princes, in Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum.

The retailer also funded the Irish team’s trip to the principality.

Named #TagMe, the winning design was made from plastic colour samples from various objects, with over 2,500 tags hand sewn together.

The winning designers were Eva Donlon, Evie Nugent and Méabh O’Shea, whose ingenuity saved the samples from ending up in landfill.

The plastics used are difficult to recycle, due to their colours.

The live event showcased 60 finalists from around the world. They revealed eco-friendly, creative designs in a dazzling showcase, with the #TagMe team emerging victorious.

Eurospar’s sponsorship of the Irish team is part of the SuperEasy Supermarket group’s ongoing commitment to Junk Kouture.

It aims to build on the partnership established in 2023, and Eurospar recently confirmed its continued support for 2024.

Junk Kouture and Eurospar are at the heart of local communities across Ireland. Eurospar has 52 locally owned supermarkets across the country, which helps Junk Kouture spread its message of living sustainably.

Speaking about the retailer’s support for the Irish team, the marketing manager of Eurospar, Claire O’Brien, said that it is delighted to support local schools.

O’Brien said, “At the heart of Eurospar is an unbreakable commitment to supporting local communities and responsible retailing.

“Junk Kouture have revolutionised how society views recycled goods and made sustainability exciting for younger people in Ireland, so we are proud to support them once again in this partnership.”
