Managing director of Barry Group, Jim Barry, has been awarded the title of ‘National Champion for Ireland’ at the European Business Awards, sponsored by RSM.
Celebrating its 60th year in operation, the Cork-based wholesaler employs more than 230 staff in its Mallow headquarters.
Under Barry’s leadership, the group has gone from a local business to a wholesale distribution company that supplies more than 1,000 customers both nationally and internationally.
Barry Group now supplies 265 franchises under the Costcutter, Carry Out Off Licence and Quik Pick symbols, as well as many independent retailers and wholesalers based in Ireland.
Speaking about the award, Jim Barry said, “We’re very proud to be selected to represent Ireland as a National Champion. The European Business Awards is widely recognised as the showcase for Europe’s most dynamic companies and we are now looking forward to the next round of the judging process where we can explain in more depth how we are achieving business success."
He added, "It’s a great honour to be selected in this category and I’d like to thank the whole team at Barry Group.”
The European Business Awards engaged with over 32,000 business from 33 European countries this year with 678 companies from across Europe named as national champions; sending them through to the second phase of the competition.
