Did you know...? Waitrose & Partners is set to be the first major retailer to sign up to The UK Robust Potato Pledge, which will see the group move away from the use of copper-based fungicides on organic fresh potatoes in order to combat late blight Phytophthora. The group aims to achieve this by growing and selling only resistant or 'robust' organic fresh potatoes by 2026, removing the need to use potentially harmful copper fungicides.

Did you know...? Aldi Ireland has announced that it is renewing its contract with Kilkenny-based apple grower Philip Little in a contract worth approximately €200,000 to the fresh produce business. For the past five years, Aldi said that it stocked apples supplied by Philip Little’s farm, who employ as many as 20 seasonal staff in the Kilkenny locality. A six-pack of Large Red Irish Apples supplied by Philip Little is now available as a core product in Aldi stores from mid-October to April, for the price of €1.99.

Did you know...? SPAR Hungary is creating a new regional partnership programme for small-scale domestic producers and businesses. The company is investing €4.75 million into the ‘Regional Treasures’ programme to integrate at least 100 suppliers and stimulate employment opportunities in the country. Building on local facilities and capacities, SPAR Hungary will establish six regional supplier centres in major cities in the last quarter of 2021.
