NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards Nominations Underway

Irish co-ops and dairies are being invited to nominate their top dairy farmers for this year’s NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards. The national award programme, known as ‘The Sam Maguire of Farming’, seeks to recognise dairy farmers for sustainability, care for the environment, animal welfare and milk quality.

Kevin Lane, CEO Irish Dairy Board said, “The world class quality milk our dairy farmers produce every day ensures that the dairy products we market around the world meet the high standards our customers and consumers expect and enjoy […] It has never been more important to support and promote best practice dairy farm management.”

The competition is open to farmers producing liquid or manufacturing milk in the Republic of Ireland and nominations must be submitted on a written nomination form, prepared in consultation with the farmer before the end of April. Entry forms are available at www.qualitymilkawards.ie.

Judges will shortlist the finalists then visit the farms for inspection. The panel includes Dr. Jack Kennedy (Dairy Editor, Irish Farmers Journal); Professor Patrick Wall (UCD); and Dr. David Gleeson (Teagasc).
