The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform will convene tomorrow to look into the operations and functioning of the National Lottery, following recent technical problems in the system.
Representatives from RGDATA and the Convenience and Newsagents Stores Association (CSNA) will appear in front of the committee at 2:30 pm, followed by representatives from operator Premier Lotteries at 3:45 pm.
Committee Chairman, Liam Twomey states “The National Lottery is a popular national institution which also makes an important contribution to social projects nationwide. Consequently, the reputational damage it has suffered as a result of recent technological faults is of concern to the Committee.”
He said that the Committee wishes to find out from Premier Lotteries the underlying reason for the recent outages in the system, as well as the steps they are taking to resolve the issue, adding, “We will be seeking reassurances that they are merely teething problems, rather than a more fundamental flaw in the new system.”
