Retail Excellence Bids To Host Global Retail Council In Dublin

Retail Excellence have recently confirmed that they are bidding to host the mid-year meeting of the Global Retail Council which is made up of international representative bodies from 30 countries around the globe who are all members of Forum for International Retail Association Executives (FIRAE).

FIRAE is a group which was set up by the most 'powerful retail representative body in the world', the NRF (USA), and aims to 'devise policies, solutions and strategies for dealing with challenges facing the industry worldwide'.

If the Irish retail representives win the bid they will reportedly host the meeting at their Retail Retreat which will be held in Citywest Hotel on May 15 and 16.

“This is the first time Retail Excellence has bid to host the Global Retail Council mid-year meeting. We started our campaign at the recent NRF (USA) Big Retail Show in New York and have continued those efforts since. We are currently competing with Australia and Canada to welcome our colleagues to Dublin in May.” Lorraine Higgins, deputy chief executive of Retail Excellence said.

Higgins said that it is a wonderful opportunity to bring such a diverse gathering of retail executives from all corners of the globe to our country and showcase the brilliance of Ireland's retailers.

Remaining Hopeful

"There is also an opportunity for the group to see firsthand the opportunities that exist for their own members to expand their operations here,” she said.

“We remain hopeful of hosting this prestigious event and feel that it would be an acknowledgement of our contribution to the Council on issues like GDPR, the challenges presented by online marketplaces and general business costs”.
