Revenue Seizes Alcohol, Cigarettes In Two Separate Incidents

Revenues officers seized contraband goods in two separate incidents on Friday, 10 February. In Dublin Port, officers seized 480 litres of alcohol of a retail value of around €15,400 from a Latvian registered truck arriving from Rotterdam.

The officers seized 298.80 litres of vodka, 108 litres of liqueurs and 74.50 litres of wine. The vodka and liqueurs were Ukrainian brands ‘Hlebniy Dar’ and ‘Nemiroff’. The wine was Moldovan, branded ‘Salcut’ and ‘Imperial Vin’.

In a separate seizure in Swords, Co Dublin, Revenue carried out a search under warrant uncovering approximately 27,000 unstamped cigarettes. The cigarettes are branded ‘Marlboro Gold’ and ‘L&M’ with a retail value of more than €14,175. A Slovakian female in her 30’s was questioned as a result, and investigations are ongoing with view to prosecution.

The combined potential loss to the Exchequer of the goods involved in both seizures is approximately €20,600.
