Spar has announced it’s launching a €50,000 ‘Helping Hand’ Community Fund to celebrate its 50th anniversary in Ireland.
Launched with the help of Olympic Gold medalist Katie Taylor, the fund will support local groups, clubs and organisations throughout the country.
There is an overall award of €10,000 up for grabs, along with five €2,800 awards and 26 €1,000 awards – one for each county in the Republic.
Funding will be awarded to local groups deemed to make an important contribution to their communities and in need of additional financial support.
Willie O’Byrne, managing director, BWG Foods, said: “As a local retailer, with a presence in nearly every town and city across Ireland, we place a big emphasis on serving and supporting the communities in which we operate. This year we are celebrating our 50th anniversary in Ireland and we wanted to mark the occasion by giving something back to these communities who have supported our retailers and helped the brand go from strength to strength over the last five decades.”
Applications can be made under one of the following five categories: Children & Youth; Community Services & Support; Heritage & Environment; Sport & Leisure; and Arts & Culture.
Judging will take place in July and funding recipients will be announced at a presentation event with Katie Taylor at the end of August.
