Spar Croom is being showcased at the 65th annual Spar International Congress in Amsterdam, which is being held from 22 to 28 May.
The Co. Limerick-based store, which has been serving the people of Croom for more than 40 years, is owned by Padraig Broderick, who bought it in 2003.
Spar Croom currently employs 44 people from the locality and serves the 1,250 people who live locally.
The store underwent its most recent revamp last year and is now a 6,725-square-foot premises, having added to its size by moving into the old Ulster Bank building adjacent to the existing store.
Broderick describes the new-look store as “fresh and modern”, with high ceilings. A craft bakery has been added, the deli offer has been revamped and expanded to provide more fresh offerings, and the range on offer at the meat counter has been expanded, to give customers more oven-ready products. The store also features the latest Spar design when it comes to store layout and traffic flow, in direct response to the new Spar strategy, ‘Better Together.’
“The flow and ambience from the dialling-up of the Spar colour palette is seamless and exudes a warmth that was very well received when recently presented to the Spar International Congress,” said Broderick.
“It is a very proud moment in the history of Spar Croom to be featured on the international stage at this year’s Spar International Congress. I am delighted with the changes to the flow of the store and, in particular, the off-licence and Spar deli sections. The benefits to our customers are also evident, as they can spend some time browsing before choosing what they wish to purchase, and this is really appealing to them. I’m truly delighted with the new layout, and it is a real hit with our customers.”
Congratulating the Limerick store and Broderick, Colin Donnelly, Spar sales director, said, “Padraig Broderick and his team in Spar Croom are a tremendous example of retailing at its finest. Spar Croom is an outstanding ambassador for Spar, and I am thrilled that the store has been recognised on the international stage by being highlighted at this year’s Spar International Congress.”
