SPAR has donated €50,000 to local community groups to celebrate 50 years in Ireland. The 'Helping Hand Community Fund' is a nationwide campaign supporting community groups and clubs. Winners were selected on their contribution to their local communities, and their need for financial support under five categories: Children & Youth; Community Services & Support; Heritage & Environment; Sport & Leisure; and Arts & Culture.
Amongst the winners were Waterford Search & Rescue who received €10,000, presented by Olympic boxer Katie Taylor. SPAR Helping Hand Community Fund also donated €1,000 each to 26 county winners across Ireland, and another €2,800 to five category winners.
Willie O’Byrne, Managing Director, BWG Foods (SPAR operators) said, “At an individual level our local retailers support and sponsor community initiatives on an ongoing basis and in this, our 50th year, we wanted to go one step further.”
