Tesco Collects Over €200,000 For Christmas Food Appeal

Tesco and Lions Club volunteers collected over €200,000 worth of food for families in need over a two-day in-store Christmas Food Appeal.

148 stores nationwide held the drive for non-perishable food donations from 5 - 6 December. 95,000 meals worth of food were collected to be added to food hampers to help out families and communities in Ireland over Christmas. Tesco topped up the donations by 30%.

Christine Heffernan, Corporate Affairs Director Tesco Ireland commented: "We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and goodwill shown by our customers, not to mention the huge efforts made by all Lions Club and Tesco volunteers. Having exceeded what we raised last year and with our 30% top-up to the total, it is fantastic knowing that even more families will benefit from the appeal this Christmas."

The appeal was one of Tesco's programmes to support local charities and organisations. Lions Club International has 115 clubs throughout the country that support local people in their communities.
