Tesco Relaunches €1m Community Fund For Local Communities Across Ireland

Tesco Ireland is calling on local community groups to apply to become ‘one in a million’ as it relaunches its long-established Community Fund programme for 2022, with €1 million being made available to local causes across Ireland this year.

The Tesco Community Fund provides financial support to good causes and community groups that matter most to its colleagues, customers and communities across Ireland.

Four Key Themes

For 2022, the Tesco Community Fund will focus on the four key themes of community development, food, children and health, to showcase the incredible work that local causes do for their communities, the retailer noted.

Tesco highlighted that it is celebrating the local heroes who have made a positive difference in communities up and down the country – those who are truly one in a million.

Challenging Times

The past two years have been incredibly challenging for local community groups, yet community leaders and volunteers in towns all over Ireland rose to the challenge to provide important support services and activities that help build and main connections and improve people’s lives every day.

The new and improved Community Fund initiative sees the return of the familiar blue tokenswhich are now made from fully recyclable materials to Tesco stores nationwide.

Each time that a customer shops in a Tesco store, s/he can vote for his/her preferred cause to receive funding using the blue tokens. At the end of the 12-week campaign, votes are counted, and up to €2,000 is shared between three local groups.

Launched in 2014, the Tesco Community Fund is a platform through which each Tesco store can provide financial support to good causes within its local community.

Since its introduction, Tesco has donated over €6 million to over 21,000 local community projects nationwide.

Speaking at the relaunch of the Tesco Community Fund, Rosemary Garth, communications director, Tesco Ireland, said, “We know how important Community Fund donations are to local organisations, including purchasing sports kits, enabling senior citizen supports, helping to maintain their premises, and supporting the purchase of much-needed equipment at a local level.

“As we approach 25 years of operating in Ireland this year, we are delighted to confirm that this year’s total fund donation is €1 million. It’s humbling to see the outstanding work done by these incredible causes they are truly one in a million. We hope Tesco customers throughout Ireland will show their support and vote for their local causes across the four key themes of the Tesco Community Fund 2022.”

Now entering its eighth year, the Community Fund campaign continues to provide vital support to community groups across Ireland.
