Tesco Shoppers Donate Over €100,000 Worth Of Food To Lions Club

Tesco Ireland has announced that its customers gave over €100,000 worth of food to the Lion’s Club during its nationwide two-day Christmas appeal.

Across November 27th and 28th, Tesco stores across the country asked its shoppers to add non-perishable food items to their baskets, from everyday staples to festive treats, to donate at special trolleys at the entrance to each shop.

The food collected during the appeal will be sorted by Lions Club volunteers to fill hampers for people struggling to provide for themselves or their families over the festive period.

Joe Smith, Lions Club Food Appeal Coordinator commented, “We are thrilled that the two day appeal proved to be such an outstanding success.

“Every food item will go to those who truly need it this Christmas and I would like to thank the thousands of Lions volunteers and Tesco stores for their efforts.”

The 115 Lions Clubs spread throughout the country will now work to see these food parcels distributed to those who need it most, by either sharing the donations directly with local families or sending the parcels to the charitable organisations they support, such as St. Vincent de Paul.
