Tesco Strike Suspended Amid Negotiation Talks

Tesco Ireland has released a statement on Friday (24 February) confirming that it is engaging in discussions with trade union Mandate to resolve the current dispute related to pre 1996 terms and conditions.

In response to the announcement, Mandate has suspended all industrial action to re-enter negotiations with the retailer. Tesco has also confirmed it will not make any changes to pre-1996 terms and conditions whilst this process is ongoing.

Employees in 20 Tesco stores through the country had joined the strike action, calling the changes to workers' conditions of employment 'an abuse of power'. The retailer defended its actions by referring to a Labour Court recommendation.

All stores remained open during the dispute.
