The Butler's Pantry is unveiling a new innovation which it claims will 'add the wow factor' to Irish barbecues this summer; plank cooking. From Monday, red cedar planks will go on sale at its ten stores in Dublin and Wicklow, which when used on a barbecue helps to gently smoke products such as cheese, fish, and even desserts.
“When I first came across planking when working in Canada many years ago, it was like a light went off in my head," The Butler’s Pantry Executive Chef Niall Hill explains.
“Cheese on a plank (plank brie) makes it soft and gooey. And delicate fishes that you always had to worry about the skin sticking to the grill are now are a thing of the past with the plank. Plus there is the added Wow factor of serving up dishes off your barbeque on a plank, it can almost become your party piece."
The barbecue plank is made of red cedar wood and measures 2 ft x 1 ft.
