Weekly Round-Up ... 3 May 2023

Finance minister Bruno Le Maire has said that he would meet with retailers and suppliers next week to discuss ways to break the food price inflation 'spiral' by autumn, which is a major concern for cash-strapped consumers, reports Reuters. Le Maire also told Franceinfo radio that economic growth remained solid in France despite recent strikes and protests against president Emmanuel Macron's legislation to raise the retirement age by two years to 64. French food retailers and their suppliers agreed a 10% average increase in prices in annual negotiations in March, which both sides said was necessary to cover higher production costs. Le Maire has since repeatedly called on both sides to reopen negotiations to ensure that a recent fall in global wholesale food prices is passed on to consumers. Le Maire has even threatened to take action if they do not respond to his calls.

Pernod Ricard's managing director for India Paul-Robert Bouhier has resigned from his position, three sources told Reuters on Wednesday, a top departure for the company as it faces a series of regulatory challenges in the country. Bouhier, who only took over the India job in January, has resigned due to personal reasons, one of the sources said. Pernod and Bouhier did not immediately respond to requests for comment. It was not clear if he has taken a new job internally or externally. Bouhier held several leadership positions at Pernod, including being managing director for Southern Europe. He joined Pernod Ricard in 1995 and has worked in France, Ireland, Singapore, South Africa, and Italy.

Prepared-vegetable firm Bonduelle Group has announced that its chief executive officer Guillaume Debrosse has decided to leave the company. Debrosse stepped in as the CEO in April 2018, having previously worked in the company's fresh produce business in France, and the canned and frozen food business internationally, reports ESMmagazine.com. Guillaume Debrosse's successor, who will be named in the coming weeks, will take up the role on 1 June 2023. In the meantime, Christophe Bonduelle, chairman of the board of directors, will assume the role of chief executive officer. He will be supported by Guillaume Debrosse during this transition period.
