Independent Retail Europe, which represents the independent food and non-food retail segments in Europe, has announced the appointment of its board of directors for the 2022-5 period. The group has also announced the re-election of Thomas Nonn, vice-president for independent retailers and cooperatives at REWE Group in Germany, as president. In a statement, Independent Retail Europe noted that the members of the association ‘reiterated their trust in his leadership of the association’ and thanked Nonn for his commitment in recent years. “It has been a pleasure to work with Thomas over the past [number of] years, and I am pleased that we can continue our good cooperation,” commented Independent Retail Europe director general Else Groen.

Croatian retailer Studenac is increasing its investment in digitalisation with the launch of a new app aimed at improving the customer experience and building loyalty. The group’s app can be used when shoppers are making purchases, enabling them to accumulate loyalty points and receive personalised rewards. The app, which is available in both Croatian and English, is compatible with Android and iOS smartphones. “As we continue to bring global best practices to the Croatian market, we’re pleased to announce our mobile application and loyalty programme,” commented Studenac marketing director Nina Mimica. “We are confident that our customers will welcome this digital experience, and by collecting and processing data in a responsible way, we will be able to offer them benefits that respond to their needs.”

Migross, a partner company of Gruppo VéGé, has opened its second cash-and-carry outlet, in line with its aim of expanding the business to economic operators and VAT holders. The opening follows the recent acquisition of the L’Alco Grandi Magazzini group and its eight AltaSfera-branded stores. Marco Mion, commercial manager of Migross, said, “Despite the difficult period for HoReCa, Migross has decided to invest and return to play an active and functional role aimed at guaranteeing service and price to professional operators. As per the philosophy of Migross, we want to grow and improve continuously, to provide a quality service and always guarantee affordable prices.”
