Weekly Round-Up ... 5 April 2022

Londis has announced that it won the top prize in the ‘Best B2C’ category at the Eir Spider Awards 2022. The retailer won for its national ‘Overheard in Londis’ advertising and social-media campaign, featuring Liam and Des. This highly competitive category ‘recognised Londis’s submission as a compelling, provocative B2C campaign that successfully drove brand awareness, perceptions and performance.’ Looking for ‘big, bold, provocative, aspirational, emotional work,’ the judges selected Londis’s very popular campaign as the winner.

The Griffin Londis Group recently presented the St James’s Hospital Foundation with a fundraising cheque for €30,000 – the proceeds from a hugely successful car giveaway raffle. Londis has had a presence in St James’s Hospital since 2011 and has been a long-term supporter of the foundation. According to the retailer, there was ‘great excitement’ when Patrick Buckley received the keys to his brand-new Kia Rio car from the raffle, which was also supported by Aryzta – much to the delight of Seamus Griffin, the St James’s Foundation, and Londis. In total, more than €130,000 has been raised for the St James’s Foundation by the Griffin Londis Group.

Maxima has invested more than €450,000 in renovating three stores to its new Mans Veikals (‘My Store’) concept in Latvia. The three stores, of which two are located in Riga – 141 Kurzemes Prospekt and 29 Stūrmaņu Street – and one in Valmiera – at 46 Rīgas Street – opened in March of this year. Evija Grīnberga, director of Maxima Latvija’s retail networks, commented, “In 2022, we will continue the targeted roll-out of the new store format across Latvia. So far, we have made changes to the smaller-format – or Maxima X – stores, adapting more than 30 stores to the new concept, but the newly opened store in Riga, at 141 Kurzemes Prospekt, is the first store of the larger Maxima XX format that has undergone significant improvements, to make it even more convenient for customers and employees. In April, we plan to continue the format transformation in the store environment in cities such as Riga, Bauska, Salaspils, and others. By the end of the year, we plan to introduce the new store format concept in about 50 more stores.”
